Sunda Croonquist in studio

Sunda is being sued by her mother-in-law for defamation.

    Seems to me this lawsuit is headed for dismissal on September 8 or, if that fails, a likely summary judgment in favor of Croonquist. When you look at the context within which the statements were made (comedic monologues) no reasonable person could possibly come to the conclusion that Croonquist was intentionally trying to defame her in-laws. I'm not sure the parody defense will win the day because that usually involves a "public figure" who has a reasonable expectation for parody and ridicule. I don't think that Croonquist's mother-in-law would qualify for public figure status.

    If there's a silver lining to what seems to be a pretty ridiculous suit, there can be no denying the fact that it hasn't exactly hurt the defendant. Honestly, how many people would know who Sunda Croonquist is were she not being sued by her mother-in-law? Any publicity is good publicity.
